Frequently asked questions
Most patients do well with a checkup and cleaning every six months. If you have gum disease, a history of frequent cavities, diabetes, or you smoke, we may recommend visits every three to four months. We will tell you what makes sense for your situation rather than applying one rule to everyone.
We review your medical and dental history, examine your teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues, screen for oral cancer, and take digital X-rays when they are needed. A hygienist then removes plaque and tartar, polishes your teeth and reviews your home care. We finish by discussing anything we found and your options.
Yes, we welcome patients of every age, from a child's first visit through to seniors. Seeing the whole family at one clinic makes scheduling simpler and helps children build comfort with dental visits early.
Yes. We use digital X-rays, which use significantly less radiation than traditional film, and we only take them when they will change what we can see or do. Protective shielding is used, and we always tell you why an image is needed.
Common signs include lingering pain after hot or cold food, pain when biting down, a persistent pimple on the gum, darkening of a tooth, or swelling nearby. Some infected teeth cause no pain at all, which is one reason regular exams matter.
No. Many of our patients come to us after a long gap, often because of cost, a past bad experience, or simple anxiety. Our job is to explain where things stand today and build a plan you are comfortable with — at a pace that works for you.
