Frequently asked questions
Small amounts of botulinum toxin are placed in the overworked chewing muscles, mainly the masseter. This reduces how forcefully those muscles can contract, easing clenching and grinding and relieving the tension that causes jaw soreness and some headaches.
It is the same medication, used with a different goal. Therapeutic treatment targets the jaw muscles to reduce clenching, grinding and tension pain, rather than treating facial lines.
The appointment usually takes about 15 to 30 minutes and you can go straight back to your normal day. Most people find the injections quick and easily tolerated.
